Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below a list of our most frequently asked questions regarding the school.

General:

How can I find out how my child is doing?

Parents may phone or send a a message at any time. Parents may also request a parent/teacher meeting. We have an open door policy so parents may drop in at any time, but please stop by the office so that we can make sure the visit is not disruptive to the child or the classroom. Sometimes a peak through the window might be a better option.

How is parent-teacher communication conducted?

Teachers and Administrators are always available to speak with parents about any concern, and a parent may request a meeting with their child’s teachers at any time. Dropping off or picking up can be a busy time for staff. We encourage you to make an appointment so that undivided attention may be given to you. Each year in the spring and fall, teachers evaluate their students’ progress through assessments which accompany parent-teacher conferences.

How can I be involved in my child's preschool experience?

We gladly welcome parents to join us for special celebrations, birthdays and presentations. Additionally, parents may volunteer in their child’s classroom or simply stop by to visit! A teacher may also ask for parent volunteers to help with a particular activity. If you would like to participate you may always ask the teachers for opportunities.

Do you offer part-time schedules?
Yes, we offer a 3-day option in addition to our 5-day schedule for children in our Pre-Nursery and Nursery Programs. We do not offer part time options for our Kindergarten program.
Do the children nap regularly?

Nap time is from 1:00 to 2:30 PM for Pre-Nursery and Nursery classes. If your child has outgrown the need for a daily nap, he or she will be required to rest quietly on their mat while the rest of the children sleep.

Is the school secure?

We take the safety of our campus very seriously.  Our school implements a comprehensive security system, including multiple security check points:

  • Secured front entry door.
  • Only authorized admittance. Unauthorized persons must wait to be assisted by a staff member.
  • Instant electronic record of your child’s arrival and departure.
  • Computerized record of all individuals authorized to pick up your child.
  • Security cameras throughout to ensure safety.

Policies:

What is the school's withdrawal policy?

You must give a minimum two week’s notice if you intend to withdraw your child from school. You will be responsible for all fees until written notice is received, plus the two following weeks.

What strategies can be used to help my child transition to the classroom?

Parents are encouraged to remain positive about their child’s new experience and be optimistic about the new transition. It is a good idea to have many conversations about school before the first day. On the first day, parents are encouraged to drop their child off and get the child situated and comfortable. After a few minutes it is important to say good-bye and assure the child that you will be returning later. If needed, during the child’s first few days, a modified schedule may be recommended to ensure a smooth transition. Additional separation information is available at www.chs-ca.org.
